World’s Best Roses in Silicon Valley
A bicycle ride, a heartfelt journey, and a timeless gift unlike any other—The Best Rose in the World.
It was a warm spring afternoon in the late 1970s when a young Scott Norris pedaled his bicycle home from Saint Victor’s School in East San Jose. His usual path wound through the city’s vast orchards, where the air was thick with the scent of blossoms and the hum of a thriving agricultural landscape. But that day, curiosity pulled him in a new direction.
Nestled far in the distance, among the many vacant acres stood sprawling greenhouses—towering 20,000-square-foot structures wrapped in plastic. Not knowing what these weird plastic buildings were, something about it called to him. With cautious excitement he added thirty minutes to his ride, dismounted his bike and nervously peeked inside one of the large buildings. What he saw stopped his heart for a moment.
Before him stretched rows upon rows of exquisite single-stem roses, their colors bursting like bright beautiful fireworks in a sky of endless colors. Reds, pinks, yellows, and whites illuminated the space, casting a glow as magical as Christmas lights in late March. The scent was intoxicating, rich with the unmistakable perfume of fresh roses. At that moment, Scott felt as if he had discovered a hidden paradise on earth.
As he took it all in, a woman—one of the kindest, warmest souls he had ever met to this day approached him. She was welcoming, her presence radiating a quiet generosity. Though they spoke different languages, their conversation unfolded through gestures, smiles, and an unspoken understanding.
And in the way, fate so often shapes lives of an idea, an unwritten contract was beginning to take root. That day, despite the language barrier, a bond was formed—a silent agreement, sealed not with words but with something far more meaningful.
She handed him a “single-stem red rose.” A timeless personal gesture, that touched him deeply, more than a dozen ever could.
The simple gesture was the beginning a long special friendship and partnership between them both.
She was the heart behind this floral wonderland. The deal was made in the doorway, and by the end of that same week, “Roses for Sale” signs began appearing on street corners throughout the North and East areas of the San Jose Bay Area. What started as a childhood adventure in the late 1970’s quickly became a lasting passion for Scott many years into the future along with the fixture of flower stands on many roadside corners in San Jose. It was not long before Scott was also selling roses to the local florists throughout the bay area.
Back then, San Jose was known for its thriving greenhouses and orchards, a city rich in agricultural heritage. But as time passed, the laws and landscape changed. Today, the torch has been passed—not to another greenhouse in California, but to the breathtaking high-altitude farms of Ecuador where many say the best roses in the world are grown.
Perched in the Andes Mountains, Ecuador’s rose farms are blessed with the perfect combination of fertile volcanic soil, crisp mountain air, and year-round sunlight. This extraordinary environment produces roses unlike any other—bigger, bolder, and more vibrant, with an unparalleled vase life. These aren’t just roses; they are masterpieces of nature, cultivated with care and precision to become the finest ROSES in the world.
At SameDayRose.com we honor this legacy, carrying forward a passion that began decades ago in a hidden greenhouse and now flourishes in the world’s most prestigious rose farms. Every rose we deliver is a symbol of beauty, history, and craftsmanship. When it comes to roses, one rose says more than a dozen every time.
It’s a great day to send someone special one of the best roses in the world usually delivered in less than an hour.
